December Meeting

Unfortunately I had to miss this meeting as well. Special thanks to our blog 'cub reporter'Vince Chittenden for his report. Note that his spelling is much better than mine...and that's not him in the Santa suit either - although I am sure he wishes it was!!!

It was a relatively small, but cosy, group of 10 that attended the December BGS meeting. After a slight delay actually getting into the room, we were off to a flying start, courtesy of an interesting selection of popular music provided by Dave Hampton. This was followed by a first-look at a really interesting piece sourced by John Mann, "Nota Bene" by Luc Lévesque, the intention being that we use this piece as our next big thing at the FGS day and at any festivals we might enter during the year.

Refreshments were provided by Larisa and Trevor, including some tasty mulled apple juice from Larisa and a delicious date cake from Trevor. Other members brought along a variety of festive nibbles.

Suitably fed and watered, we then launched into a fairly brief solo performance section during which:

Tom Rimmer played "Water Garden" by Stephen Goss
Vince played the "Nocturne" from A Midsummer Night's Dream, and "Hark the Herald Angels Sing", both by Felix Mendelssohn
Tessa rounded-off the solos with "El Noi de la Mare" (The Child of the Mother), a traditional Catalan Christmas song

There then followed more ensemble playing led by John. The pieces included "Snowdrops", a Pieter van der Staak composition, and other festive airs such as "Walking in The Air" and "Coventry Carol".

All-in-all, it was a nice relaxed meeting to end the year with.

Great performance by such a young talented ensemble!! The kids are 'alright'.....
