BGS November 20th 2015 Meeting

A good turn-out of fifteen attended this 'pre-festival' meeting. Firstly, big thanks go out to Trevor who turned up briefly at the beginning of the meeting, despite feeling poorly, just to leave us the coffee and biscuits supplies! Nice one.

We welcome Toby Louw as the latest fully-paid member of the society. We also welcomed-back Rob Sellery after a long absence sorting out house repairs. Thanks too to Denis, who was not there but has left a stock of music books with John for the society to use. Our regular visitor from down-under (no, not you Andrew), Peter Mony, came along to the meeting but will soon be heading off back to Australia for a while. We hope he'll be back next year for some sessions with us.

Being the day before the Beckenham Festival, the ensemble practice this evening centred around the two pieces we will perform tomorrow, "Ballad" by Mark Houghton and "Monky Business" by Peter Nuttall.

This was interspersed with a great selection of solo performances:

Vince  Ukranian Folk Song (Nikita Koshkin)
Marion  Gaelic Song #1 (Nuttall)
Freddie  Smoke Gets In Your Eyes (Kern) [own arr.]
 Peanut Vendor (Simons/Sunshine/Gilbert) [own arr.]
Rob  My Romance (Hart/Rogers)
 Sueño (Tàrrega)
 Vals (Tàrrega)
 Gnossiene #1 (Satie) [own arr.]
Toby  Sunburst (York, Andrew)

This evening's ensemble practice went well. Thanks to John Mann for his hard work bringing us to this point ahead of tomorrow's performance at the Beckenham Music Festival.

Please visit the Current Ensemble Repertoire page to see the pieces we are currently working on.
