BGS January 16th 2016 Meeting

A good turn-out of fifteen attended this evening's meeting. It was great to see Dave Hampton and Tom Rimmer back after being 'off the radar' for a while. We were delighted to welcome Ivan, his first visit to the BGS, and Val who sat in for the first half. Hopefully they will both consider joining our merry crew.

With our 'paying' gig coming up in April, tonight's emphasis was on a fast-paced run-through of the pieces we are considering playing on the night: Romance Without Words, Gavotte and Sarabande from the Holberg Suite by Grieg, Alta Vista and Yesterday. We waited until Tessa had left before we practised Yesterday! Alta Vista caused its usual chaos with the various parts involved, especially as some copies of the music had different bar numbering! Thanks to John for having the patience of a saint sorting the mess out.

Thanks as usual to Trevor for providing tea, coffee and home-made cakes for the half-time break at 8 o'clock!

This was followed by a good selection of solo performances:

Dave  Preludes NÂș I and IV (Villa-Lobos)
Andrew Indaco by Ludovico Einaudi

After the solos came more ensemble practice.

Just as we were leaving, the first snow of the Winter had started to fall.

Please visit the Current Ensemble Repertoire page to see the pieces we are currently working on.
