BGS Meeting 20th January 2018

In early March we are going to take part in the Bromley Guitar Festival.   John had chosen for us the Connemara Suite by Turlough O’Carolan arranged for four guitars.
Tonight was our second look at the five short pieces, and as we have only a few practice sessions before the festival, we launched straight into our playing.

Each of the pieces has a different ‘feel’, rhythm and pace so it is challenging to switch quickly from one to another but with John’s help we are getting to know them and to ‘iron’ out tricky bars.

After Trevor’s welcome refreshments, we enjoyed three solo performances:

Tom O Dark Sweetest Girl (trad. Irish, arr J Duarte)
 Andantino No.2 in AMaj (J K Mertz)
Rob Preludio de Adios (Alfonso Montes)
Wild Mountain Thyme (trad. Scottish, arr Scott Tennant)
Ivan Praise (Yvonne Bloor)

Then we played through the Connemara Suite again, and resolved to work on our individual fingering.

Please visit the Current Ensemble Repertoire page to see the pieces we are currently working on.
